Read pages 66-71. Complete all questions in complete sentences on a sheet of loose leaf paper. Please use a pen, NOT a pencil! You may also type and print. You do not need to write out the questions... just answer them! Due Tuesday, 10/23. 1) Vocabulary Builder: Find one word in the reading that you don't know or are unsure of the meaning. Look up each word in the dictionary. For each, write out the word, the definition, and an original sentence (a sentence that you created yourself) that uses the word. Choose regular words, not social studies key terms that are boldfaced in the text. Do NOT leave this blank because you think you know every word -- you WILL lose credit! 2) What is moksha? How does one achieve moksha? Show an understanding of the terms atman and brahma in your answer. 3) Explain the terms reincarnation and karma. How are the two terms interrelated? 4) Describe at least two ways that Hinduism has changed over the years. Do you think the lack of a single founder is what caused it to change more than other religions? Yes or no? Explain. 5) Describe at least two ways that Hinduism impacted Indian society. 6) Explain the basic beliefs of Buddhism. Include the terms Four Noble Truths, Eightfold Path, and nirvana. 7) Describe one way that Buddhism differed from Hinduism, and one way that it was similar. 8) Describe at least two ways that Buddhism spread beyond India. 9) CREATIVE RESPONSE: Siddhartha Gautama needs your help. He is starting a personal website about his life (Buddha.com), but he needs a bio (short biographical profile). Write a two-paragraph bio (5 sentences per paragraph) that explains who Siddhartha Gautama is and summarizes the events in his life that led to him becoming known as the Buddha.
