For each, write out the word, the definition, and an original sentence (a sentence that you created yourself) that uses the word. Describe the Twelve Tables. Why are they described as a 'victory' for plebeians? 4) What is a republic? Who were the consuls and the senate? Describe 2 similarities between the Roman Republic and the United States government using the chart on page 157. 5) Using the map on p. 159, describe the extent of Roman rule by 264 BCE. What additional territory was added by 146 BCE? How was Rome able to gain this territory and maintain control over it? 6) Describe the role Julius Caesar played in the decline of the Roman Republic and the rise of the Roman Empire. 7) What is meant by Pax Romana? Briefly describe the developments in government, agriculture, and trade during this era. 8) Create a graphic organizer entitled "The Roman World" with four sections: "Slavery"; "Religion"; "Social Classes" and "Entertainment". Take notes. 9) Creative Response: Imagine you are a Roman performer who has been hired to perform a tribute to either Julius or Augustus Caesar. Write a poem, rap, or song that celebrates the accomplishments of one of these great Roman emperors.
