Questions: 1) Vocabulary Builder: Find two words in the reading that you don't know. Look up each word in the dictionary. For each, write out the word, the definition, and a sentence that uses the word. Choose regular words, not key terms that are boldfaced in the text. 2) Make a three column chart entitled 'War Affects the World' with the following column headings: The Gallipoli Campaign; Battles in Africa; Battles in Asia. Take notes into the chart. 3) Why did the U.S. join the war in April 1917? Do you feel the U.S. entry was justified? Explain. 4) What is meant by 'total war'? Why is World War I considered a total war? Your response should be a paragraph (at least 5 sentences) that discusses ALL of the following: rationing; propaganda; and the role of women. 5) Why did Russia withdraw from the war in March 1917? How did this impact Germany's war strategy? 6) Draw a timeline entitled "The Central Powers Collapse". Place into the timeline the important events that occurred in the following months: March 1918, May 1918, July 1918, October 1918, and November 1918. 7) Write a paragraph (at least 5 sentences) that summarizes the human costs, economic costs, and social effects of World War I. 8) Interpret the Quote: Explain the point that the historian is making about WWI.
