Kindergarten through grade 12 students can apply now to attend exciting spring break STEM enrichment and experiential learning programs. A wide range of programs are offered at the NYC Department of Education’s Genovesi Environmental Study Center and NYC Center for Aerospace and Applied Mathematics, Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum, the Bronx Zoo, Central Park Zoo, Museum of the City of New York, New York Aquarium, New-York Historical Society, Prospect Park Zoo, Queens Botanical Garden, Queens County Farm Museum, Queens Zoo, Staten Island MakerSpace, Staten Island Zoo, and Wave Hill. Student will meet and work with field experts in programs that feature real life, hands-on learning experiences. Explore, tinker, discover, and design with us! Due Friday, Feb. 1. 1) Vocabulary Builder: Find one word in the reading that you don't know or are unsure of the meaning. Look up each word in the dictionary. For each, write out the word, the definition, and an original sentence (a sentence that you created yourself) that uses the word. Choose regular words, not social studies key terms that are boldfaced in the text. Do NOT leave this blank because you think you know every word -- you WILL lose credit! 2) Although the Sui Dynasty didn't last long didn't last long, how did its accomplishments influence China? 3) Who was Wu Zhao and what did she accomplish? 4) How did the Tang attempt to strengthen China's central government? Describe the results of this attempt. 5) Write an evidence-based paragraph defending the claim that the Song Dynasty was a Golden Age for China. First, write the claim. Then, write at least one sentence about each of the following topics: science & technology; agriculture; trade & foreign contacts; and poetry & art. 6) Describe the changes in social classes that occurred during the Tang & Song period. Explain. 10) Creative Response: Imagine you're a soldier fighting in the trenches on the Western front. Write a poem, song, or rap that expresses what you are experiencing.
