Read textbook pp. 330-334 & 335-338. Answer all questions in complete sentences. Due Friday, Feb. 8. 1) Vocabulary Builder: Find one word in the reading that you don't know or are unsure of the meaning. Look up each word in the dictionary. For each, write out the word, the definition, and an original sentence (a sentence that you created yourself) that uses the word. Choose regular words, not social studies key terms that are boldfaced in the text. Do NOT leave this blank because you think you know every word -- you WILL lose credit! (pp. 330-334) 2) Describe the geography of the Asian steppe and the lifestyle of the people who lived there. How did they interact with more settled societies? 3) Describe some of the tactics that made Genghis Khan successful in war. 4) Describe what happened to the Mongol Empire in the years after Genghis Khan's death. Include the terms khanates and Pax Mongolica in your response. (pp. 335-338) 5) Create a graphic organizer entitled "Kublai Khan Rules China" with 3 sections: Building Projects; Government; and Economy. Take notes into the chart. 6) Who was Marco Polo? How did most Europeans view his accounts? Why do you they viewed his writings that way? 7) Explain the factors that contributed to the decline and fall of the Yuan Dynasty. 8) Creative Response: Some people consider The Travels of Marco Polo (c. 1300) to be the first travel book. Write a 2-paragraph (at least 5 sentences each) 'excerpt' from the book The Travels of *YOUR NAME HERE* (2019) in which you describe a place you have actually been to people who have never been there before.
