(pp. 422-427) 9) What groups did East Africans trade with across the Indian Ocean? What goods were traded? What is Swahili? 10) How did Islam spread to East Africa? How did interaction with Arab Muslim traders impact East Africa? 11) DEFEND A CLAIM: Using information from the text, formulate a claim in response to the question, "Which was the greatest West African Kingdom: Ghana, Mali, or Songhay?" Write a two-paragraph response (5 sentences each) defending your claim.
