Read textbook pp. 488-500. Answer all questions in complete sentences. Due Thursday, 4/18 Questions: 1) Vocabulary Builder: Find one word in the reading that you don't know or are unsure of the meaning. Look up each word in the dictionary. For each, write out the word, the definition, and an original sentence (a sentence that you created yourself) that uses the word. Choose regular words, not social studies key terms that are boldfaced in the text. Do NOT leave this blank because you think you know every word -- you WILL lose credit! 2) Describe at least one political, one economic, and one social factor that helped bring about the Reformation. Which factor do you think was most significant? Explain your choice. 3) What actions by the Church was Martin Luther most offended by? Describe the main points of his teachings. 4) Explain the conflict that emerged between Luther and Pope Leo X. Describe the outcomes of this conflict. 5) Explain how Luther's ideas led to peasant revolts and war in Germany. 6) Explain how England became Protestant. Describe the impact of Henry VIII's actions on England in the late 1500s. 7) Describe the basic teachings of John Calvin. Include the term predestination in your response. 8) What was the Catholic Reformation? Describe the ideas of Ignatius of Loyola and the Jesuits. 9) Draw a chart entitled "Effects of the Reformation" with 3 columns, 'Religious', 'Social', and 'Political'. Take notes. 10) CREATIVE RESPONSE: You have once again been chosen to do some work for RKATV. This time you've been asked to conduct an interview with Martin Luther in 1517. Write 7 questions for Luther and for each question, write what you think his response would be. I hope you will be willing to act out your interview with a friend in class!
