Read pages 35-41. See attached PDF for the textbook section. Answer all questions in complete sentences. You do not need to write out the questions... just answer them! Due Wednesday, Oct. 10th. 1) Vocabulary Builder: Find one word in the reading that you don't know or are unsure of. Look it up. For each word, write out the word, the definition, and an original sentence that uses the word. This means a sentence that you created yourself using the word, NOT the sentence from the textbook or one from a dictionary.) Choose a regular word, not a social studies key term that is boldfaced in the text. Do NOT leave this blank because you think you know every word -- you WILL lose credit! 2) What were some advantages of Egypt's geography? What were some challenges? How was it similar to Mesopotamia? How was it different? 3) In what way were religion and government in Egypt tied together? How was Egyptian government different from Mesopotamian government? Include the words 'pharaohs' and 'theocracy' in your answer. 4) What are pyramids and why were they built? What is mummification and why did Egyptians do it? 5) Draw a pyramid with four levels. Take notes about each social class into the appropriate level of the pyramid. 6) Describe Egyptian writing. How was it similar to Mesopotamia's writing? How was it different? 7) CREATIVE RESPONSE: Imagine you are a traveler from Mesopotamia who is visiting Egypt. Write an "email" back home to your family about all of the amazing things you are seeing in this foreign land. Include some examples of Egyptian science and technology and make some comparisons to life back home to help your family understand it better. Your letter must be at least 2 paragraphs long (at least 5 sentences per paragraph). ![]()
